Discovering the Heart of Ohio

Our Visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Nestled between Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers a slice of scenic wilderness in the heart of Ohio. Our visit to this stunning park was nothing short of rejuvenating, from the serene river views to the lush forests and hidden waterfalls.

Arriving at Cuyahoga Valley

We started our journey with high expectations, and Cuyahoga didn’t disappoint. As we drove through the entrance, the lush greenery instantly transported us to another world. The quiet, winding roads took us deeper into the park, where we were greeted by the sights and sounds of nature all around us.

Hiking to Brandywine Falls

One of the highlights of our trip was the hike to Brandywine Falls, a stunning 65-foot waterfall that’s easily one of the park’s must-see attractions. The trail leading up to it was relatively easy, and the cascading water against the layered rocks made for an unforgettable view. The overlook provided the perfect spot for photos, and we took our time soaking in the tranquil sounds of the falls.

Exploring the Towpath Trail

Next, we set off on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. This historic trail once connected Cleveland to other parts of Ohio, and walking it felt like stepping back in time. The trail winds along the Cuyahoga River, providing glimpses of old canal locks and scenic views of the river itself. We saw plenty of wildlife, including herons, deer, and even a family of turtles basking in the sun. This path is perfect for both bikers and walkers, making it a versatile option for any visitor.

A Scenic Train Ride

To get a different perspective of the park, we hopped on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. This train ride is a unique way to explore the park’s landscape, with panoramic windows offering views of meadows, forests, and rivers. It’s a leisurely ride that allows you to relax and take in the scenery without the need for hiking boots. We found ourselves snapping photos of the passing landscapes, each one seemingly more beautiful than the last.

Relaxing at Beaver Marsh

Our final stop was at Beaver Marsh, a wetland area teeming with life. It was a peaceful end to our day, watching the beavers work on their dams and listening to the frogs and birds. The boardwalk through the marsh is a lovely place to observe wildlife up close and made for a relaxing stroll.
